London Travel Web is a free guide to London specifically aimed at tourists and first-time visitors to London.

London Travel Web is a non-commercial website which basically means that we won't try to sell you anything and you won't find any adverts !! (I'm sure it'll never catch on). This allows our information and recommendations to remain completely independent and unbiased. All of our staff are volunteers (unpaid, what a shame!). We're all from different backgrounds and even from different countries, but we all have one thing in common - a love of London - and we want you to come here and enjoy it too, without getting ripped off along the way.

So what's the catch? Why is it free and why did you write the guide?

Well there's no catch really. We were all visitors to London ourselves at one point and we couldn't find a decent website guide to London that wasn't trying to sell us something that we didn't want. So we thought we would write one ourselves. Don't get me wrong, there are some great guidebooks out there, such as Lonely Planet, Time Out, Rough Guide etc, that are well worth buying if you plan on visiting London but most of them are so comprehensive and so full of places to visit and places to stay and eat that you can easily be overwhelmed with too much info. This guide aims to keep things simple and just show you the highlights and the best things to do during a short stay in London.

This guide is free because most of us already have jobs doing other things. Several of us have spent time working for a non-profit organisation overseas, in particular helping to promote tourism in developing countries such as South America so we thought we would apply some of what we learned helping to promote a more developed city such as London. Even though we are back in the UK we are continuing to support community projects in the mountains of Peru, helping to raise money to build schools and pay for teachers and school equipment. Our dream is to set up a charity in the UK to raise money for these projects. Hopefully if this website becomes popular we will include a link to the charity and ask for voluntary donations. However that's still a long way off yet. In the meantime we're just enjoying London, visiting many of the free attractions, having a few pints in the local pubs and bars, taking in a few West End shows and occasionally wining and dining in some of the more affordable restaurants. Don't worry we'll keep you up to date and let you know how we get on!
